20 Iconic 1940s Hairstyles for Classy Women

40s hair

This style was normally paired with waves on the bottom part of the hair. This is an older version of the 50s- and 60s-pageboy hairstyle for women. To get this look you should start with straight hair and then you have to tuck under the bottom part of your hair.

Voluminous Curls

40s hair

Hollywood starlets were clothed in long, draping, flowing gowns made of satin, crepe, silk, and velvet. Dresses and gowns began to be bias cut, meaning the fabric was cut diagonally, allowing it to cling to curves. Coco Chanel brought the day suit into fashion, with a fitted jacket and a long skirt.

Effective Shampoos for Straight Hair that Add Body and Shine

To get this look, you’ll need a curling iron to give shape to your hair, and she gives you her best tips for curling your hair for a retro look! You’ll also need hair clips, a heat protector and a chiffon hair scarf to finish the look. One of the standard ‘40s hairstyles for many actresses, this look came right in handy to frame your face and put your gorgeous features on display. Start by parting your hair into two even sections and clip the bottom half out of the way. Create one to two-inch sections, roll as you usually would, and pin your hair in place.

Updo with Bumper Bangs

Post-war, an American approach to dressing inspired a more casual, sporting style for both men and women which saw popularity in both the US and Europe. Servicemen who returned to mainland US from Asia and the Pacific islands brought with them a trend for brightly colored Hawaiian shirts. Though they had gained popularity in Hawaii in the 1930s, the trend spread in the postwar years and into the 1950s as the relaxed American style was widely adopted. While their international fashion profiles had increased, liberated Paris was eager to retake its status as the fashion capital. By the dawn of the 1940s, France had long been established as the center of women’s fashion design.

Victory Rolls – A Classic 1940’s hairstyle

Add a flower on the heavy side for a romantic, timeless finish. This style invites a sense of 1940s glamour to any modern ensemble. Kick up some fun with a ‘poodle’ do that sits pretty on top, while the ends dance in waves.

1940s hairstyles were largely inspired by actresses during an era of glamor that provided a sense of escapism from the war. With skirts swooping downward and shoulders reverting to more natural lines, sleeker, close-to-the-head hairstyles give the figure better balance. A gentle, refined appearance will replace any suggestion of a siren in next season’s hairstyles.

BRUSHED CURLY BOB

It’s a hairstyle that says you’re not just in the room, you own it—bold, bright, and utterly you. Go big or go home with a large 2-barrel victory roll updo that’s bound to turn heads. Start by splitting and rolling two thick strands, victory-style. Next, pin ’em up high for that dramatic, sky-scraping effect. It’s retro with a punch, perfect for the gal ready to rule the roost with her coiffure. Considered one of the most fashionable 1940s hairstyles, the pin curl was the basis for almost all other more complicated styles thereafter.

Ignite your style with Hollywood waves on fiery red hair, a look that’s both classic and captivating. The rich curls exude glamour, harking back to silver screen sirens. Meanwhile, the vibrant red shade adds a modern twist, ensuring all eyes are on you.

These bouncy ringlets offer a playful yet polished vibe, inspiring a throwback to vintage beauty. Channel your inner Lucille Ball with the iconic poodle updo—a signature style that screams classic Hollywood. Sculpt those curls tight, stack ’em high, and let whimsical ringlets kiss your cheeks. This head-turner ‘do pays homage to Lucy’s timeless elegance and charm.

If there was a parting, hair was generally parted to one side, though the occasional centre parting can be seen in old photographs. Sign up to our newsletter and get exclusive hair care tips and tricks from the experts at All Things Hair. Learn about 1940s hair flowers, bows, clips, combs and turbans to accessorize your 1940s hairstyles. These polished looks would became an iconic hairstyle of the 1950s.

Step up the glam with a sleek bumper bang, topped with the classic grace of a snood. First, swoop your locks into a smooth roll that sits pretty on your forehead. Then, tuck the rest into a snood, keeping it neat and sweet. This look’s a nod to vintage finesse, with a dash of modern sass—ideal for the queen stepping into the spotlight. Loose brush outs that frame the face with softness and depth. These expansive waves add a touch of drama without overwhelming, perfect for a look that’s both bold and wearable.

Sophisticated and popular, the slicked-back look was a go-to style for men in the 1940s. Slicked hair was easy to achieve by simply spreading oil through the hair and pushing it back against the head to keep it in place. Despite the war, women in the 1940s were still able to create jaw-dropping looks simply by styling their hair. Front hair combs into bangs from a side part — the rest of the hair brushes into back curls.

It’s not just a hairstyle, it’s a statement—so go ahead, let your hair do the talking. Curls were a very important part in each 1940s look as voluminous hair was the trend. The pin curls were the trendiest fashion as it was easier for women to obtain them.

What Are Mortgage Payments On A $300K Loan?

how much is a mortgage on a 300k house

Only four in ten Americans could afford a home under such conditions. During the Great Depression, one-fourth of homeowners lost their homes. These costs aren't addressed by the calculator, but they are still important to keep in mind. Read our article to find out what questions you should ask when it comes to choosing the right lender for your needs. Check out the answers to some frequently asked questions about $300,000 homes and whether buying one will work for your financial situation.

What is a down payment?

Non-conforming loans are not limited to the size limit of conforming loans, like a jumbo loan, or the guidelines like government-backed loans, although lenders will have their own criteria. VA loans are partially backed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, allowing eligible veterans to purchase homes with zero down payment (in most cases) at competitive rates. Homeowners in some developments and townhome or condominium communities pay monthly Homeowner's Association (HOA) fees to collectively pay for amenities, maintenance and some insurance. Mortgage interest is the cost you pay your lender each year to borrow their money, expressed as a percentage rate.

Interest rate

You can explore your options for mortgage payments on a $300,000 loan by using the amortization calculator. Above is the repayments on a $300K mortgage with an amortization schedule that shows how much you have to pay each month, and how much interest and principal you are paying. In general, for a 30-year fixed loan, you will have the lowest monthly payment but the highest interest rate. However, with a 15-year fixed, you’ll have a higher payment, but will pay less interest and build equity and pay off the loan faster. The longer the term of your loan — say 30 years instead of 15 — the lower your monthly payment but the more interest you’ll pay. Putting 20% down on a $300,000 home requires a $60,000 down payment.

FAQs About Monthly Mortgage Payments On A $300,000 Loan

If your loan amount is greater than 80% of the home purchase price, lenders require insurance on their investment. These loans have interest rates that reset at specific intervals. They typically begin with lower interest rates than fixed-rate loans, sometimes called teaser rates. After the initial term ends, the interest rate — and your monthly payment — increases or decreases annually based on an index, plus a margin. Bankrate's calculator also estimates property taxes, homeowners insurance and homeowners association fees. You can edit these amounts, or even edit them to zero, as you're shopping for a loan.

FHA loans have looser requirements around credit scores and allow for low down payments. An FHA loan will come with mandatory mortgage insurance for the life of the loan. Let’s add one more caveat to the mix by looking at an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) versus a fixed-rate mortgage. An adjustable-rate mortgage allows you to pay one interest rate for a set period of time before the loan adjusts periodically over the remainder of the loan term.

In the early 20th century, buying a home involved saving up a large down payment. Borrowers would have to put 50% down, take out a three or five-year loan, then face a balloon payment at the end of the term. Being house poor means working double time to pay for a house you can’t comfortably afford. Zillow's mortgage calculator gives you the opportunity to customize your mortgage details while making assumptions for fields you may not know quite yet. These autofill elements make the home loan calculator easy to use and can be updated at any point. Over the length of the loan, though, the 15-year loan is a far better deal, considering the interest you pay — $514,715 in total.

The other portion is the interest, which is the cost paid to the lender for using the money. There may be an escrow account involved to cover the cost of property taxes and insurance. The buyer cannot be considered the full owner of the mortgaged property until the last monthly payment is made. In the U.S., the most common mortgage loan is the conventional 30-year fixed-interest loan, which represents 70% to 90% of all mortgages. Mortgages are how most people are able to own homes in the U.S. Below is an example amortization schedule for a $300,000 loan on a 30-year mortgage at a 7% interest rate.

Although it's a myth that a 20% down payment is required to obtain a loan, keep in mind that the higher your down payment, the lower your monthly payment. A 20% down payment also allows you to avoid paying private mortgage insurance on your loan. You can use Zillow's down payment assistance page and questionnaire tool to surface assistance funds and programs you may qualify for. Use Zillow’s home loan calculator to quickly estimate your total mortgage payment including principal and interest, plus estimates for PMI, property taxes, home insurance and HOA fees.

Ways To Save For A House: Tips To Fund Your Down Payment

Getting a mortgage preapproval will help you stand out when making an offer while providing you with a better picture of exactly how much house you can afford. Once you’ve completed your financial analysis, you can begin researching lenders. Find the one that best meets your needs and begin your application process. A little math can go a long way in providing a “how much house can I afford? Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page.

First-time home buyers should keep track of these costs as they add up quickly. A mortgage is a loan secured by property, usually real estate property. Lenders define it as the money borrowed to pay for real estate. In essence, the lender helps the buyer pay the seller of a house, and the buyer agrees to repay the money borrowed over a period of time, usually 15 or 30 years in the U.S. A portion of the monthly payment is called the principal, which is the original amount borrowed.

While we strive to provide a wide range of offers, Bankrate does not include information about every financial or credit product or service. Loan start date - Select the month, day and year when your mortgage payments will start. This formula can help you crunch the numbers to see how much house you can afford. Alternatively, you can use this mortgage calculator to help determine your budget. Aside from paying off the mortgage loan entirely, typically, there are three main strategies that can be used to repay a mortgage loan earlier. However, if interest rates drop, you might consider refinancing to a fixed-rate loan.

Enter the price of a home and down payment amount to calculate your estimated mortgage payment with an itemized breakdown and schedule. Adjust the loan details to fit your scenario more accurately. Start by checking your credit history for any issues that could prevent you from qualifying for a loan. Next, review your monthly debt payments and determine your DTI. Using the mortgage calculator, explore all the factors affecting your monthly mortgage payment. You’ll get an idea of what the different loan terms will mean for your budget.

Property taxes, home insurance, HOA fees, and other costs increase with time as a byproduct of inflation. In the calculator, the recurring costs are under the "Include Options Below" checkbox. There are also optional inputs within the calculator for annual percentage increases under "More Options." Using these can result in more accurate calculations. The loan type you select affects your monthly mortgage payment. Explore mortgage options to fit your purchasing scenario and save money. How much you can afford to apply to a down payment can also influence the final numbers.

The FHA also offered further help amid the nationwide drop in real estate prices. It stepped in, claiming a higher percentage of mortgages amid backing by the Federal Reserve. Today, both entities continue to actively insure millions of single-family homes and other residential properties. Conforming loans have maximum loan amounts that are set by the government and conform to other rules set by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, the companies that provide backing for conforming loans. A non-conforming loan is less standardized with eligibility and pricing varying widely by lender.

You’ll still have to pay certain fees to refinance, but the savings might be worth the upfront costs if you plan to stay in the home. The United States Department of Agriculture backs USDA loans that benefit low-income borrowers purchasing in eligible, rural areas. While an upfront funding fee is required on these loans, your down payment can be as little as zero down without paying PMI. Down payment - The down payment is money you give to the home's seller.

This is called private mortgage insurance, or PMI which is a protection that lenders use to protect themselves in case of default from the borrower. Your loan program can affect your interest rate and total monthly payments. Choose from 30-year fixed, 15-year fixed, and 5-year ARM loan scenarios in the calculator to see examples of how different loan terms mean different monthly payments. NerdWallet’s mortgage payment calculator makes it easy to compare common loan types to see how each type of loan affects your monthly payment. We source the latest weekly national average interest rate from Zillow, so you can accurately estimate and compare your monthly payment for a 30-year fixed, 15-year fixed, and 5/1 ARM.

There are several different ratios of ingredients you use to get the perfect royal icing consistency. For the stiffer royal icing, add more powdered sugar. If you want royal icing that allows you to quickly flood the surface of a cookie, you'll want to add a bit more water so your icing is a honey-like consistency. Don't worry though — you won't lose any of the delicious flavors of your butter as it starts to saturate and harden. You may, however, find that your dough is drier than if you were to use the same amount of regular butter.

Wrap it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Big enough to serve at a holiday party, this Christmas Tree Cookie Cake is a great project for the whole family to do together. You can flavor with different extracts or spices, like cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. I actually prefer a pinch of cinnamon in them. Submit your question or recipe review here.

Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. See the recipe card at the end of the post for the full ingredients list and instructions. Cover the cookie with red sanding sugar, shake off the excess. The sugar will stick to the red parts only, since it’s wet.

You can also roll out your dough between two sheets of parchment paper rather than in a bath of flour. While the flour can help prevent sticking to the counter, it also impacts the texture of the dough and can make it drier than what you intend. You should stick to mixing your batter only enough to remove all the streaks and clumps of flour.

Using this same piping tip, pipe the scarf with red icing on top of the white icing. Using piping tip #1, pipe the hat, eyes, and buttons with black icing. Using this same piping tip, pipe the nose with orange icing.

Holiday baking is the crown jewel for many home bakers. Not only is baking the perfect sugar cookie a matter of artistic prowess, but you have to understand the chemistry of the cookie to truly master its creation. Once dry, use white royal icing to make an outline and pipe lines and dots on the candy cane.

Start by piping an edge around each cookie. Then you can pipe more icing into the center and use a toothpick to smooth it into an even layer. Once the dough is chilled, unwrap it and roll it out with a rolling pin so it is 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick. Sift the flour, corn starch, and salt into a mixing bowl. Whisk to combine and then set the bowl aside.

Use it to make all your favorite ornaments, or try one of the innovative recipes below. This technique is simply basic flooding, but applied to smaller sections of the cookie.

Add your middle sized cookie and another layer of frosting. Finish off the tree with the smallest cookie and a final swirl that piles up to make the top of the tree. Please see our FAQ page for many answers to common questions. Your email address will not be published. Using edible markers is the easiest way to do this, but you can pipe it on with icing if you want to. Finally, pipe on a little bit of orange icing to be the “carrot” nose. The easiest way to do this is to use black icing for most of the accessories (in addition to the white for the body).

Then pipe on royal icing decorations to make them look Christmas-y. After the white icing has dried, pipe on a scarf, buttons and arms. The easiest way to decorate them is to cover the entire cookie in white frosting. Which means I like to use designs that are easy to do but still look beautiful. For this option, you’ll also need your offset icing spatula and a glass of warm water. We work together to plan our cookie designs working with the just two colors plan.

Just outline and flood the whole tree with piping tip #5. Then pipe the tree trunk and red dots on top. Nothing is more classic than a simple red and green holly berry decorated cookie. I love that Sweet Sugarbelle flipped a fall maple leaf cutter into this fun Christmas shape. There are dozens of ways to decorate a simple stocking cookie cutter with just two colors.

Corn syrup is sweeter than glucose or glycerin, both of which are often found in royal icing recipes where corn syrup is not readily available. If you plan to add corn syrup to your royal icing recipe, you should opt for light corn syrup rather than a darker type — which is made with molasses for color. You'll want to leave your butter at room temperature for about an hour to soften before you start preparing your sugar cookie dough. There are some tricks you can use for warming up your butter faster, such as cubing the butter into tiny pieces before letting it warm up on your countertop. One of the easiest ways to add depth to the flavor of your sugar cookie is to substitute the butter in the recipe for browned butter.

Thaw in the refrigerator overnight when ready to use. If still too firm to roll out, allow the dough to sit at room temperature for about 1 hour. Snowmen are another easy-to-decorate Christmas cookie.

Grouping 3 red sugar balls together around the edge of the wreath, makes them look like holly berries. But I don’t usually have a lot of time to spend making them.

While you could reduce it a bit, you want to be sure that your buttercream is stable enough to support the building of the trees. When dry, flood the hat area with red royal icing. Now use white icing to pipe little dots on the hat. With a food marker, mark the area for the scarf. Here is the sugar cookie recipe written out for you. Below the recipe, you can see how to decorate each fun shape pictured today.

You'll get the same vanilla flavors as using a pricier bottle but will have the benefit of purchasing a product that is more widely available in local grocery stores. Try to cut out as many as you can before rerolling the dough out to cut more. Place the cutouts on the prepared cookie sheets. Beat the butter and sugar in a large bowl until creamy. Turn the speed to low, and add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract and mix. Just cover the entire cookie with white royal icing (which doesn’t require any food coloring).

If you make this, will you do me a huge favor and leave a review and rating letting me know how you liked this recipe? To make the frosting, beat the butter until smooth. You’ll need 3 sizes of cookie dough balls in order to get the 3 sizes of cookie for each tree. The smallest is one teaspoon, the middle one it 2 teaspoons and the largest is 3 teaspoons. I personally find it easiest to put on some Christmas music and just go to town making a whole bunch of teaspoon sized scoops. Please leave a 5-star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating in the recipe card below ⬇️ and/or a review in the comment section further down.

I sprinkled blue sugar crystals over the wet icing on some of them to give them a little color. Then you can either flood the whole cookie surface with royal icing and add some sprinkles. They use 2 cookie cutters of different sizes to create a cut out snowflake shape that looks more delicate than a filled in snowflake.

We've upgraded this Christmas sugar cookie recipe by cutting the dough into hexagons and decorating each treat with eye-catching royal icing dyed pink and metallic hues. These are pretty simple and easy to make [provided you get the royal icing consistency right! I know they don’t look perfect, the royal icing doesn’t have that matte effect and all but hey I am still learning so it might take me few more years to perfect that. I have tried to do step by step pictures for few of them while rest are self explanatory. The primary difference between brown sugar and white sugar (besides the color, of course) is the inclusion of molasses.

Or to get a bit fancier, you can alternate red and green stripes. Then add small balls of another color to create the ornaments. One recipe makes about two dozen 4-inch treats. Simply double (or triple!) the recipe to ensure you have plenty of dough to make a selection of the iterations we're sharing here.

how much is a mortgage on a 300k house

There might be other costs such as taxes and insurance.Following is a table that shows the monthly mortgage payments for $300,000 over 30 years and 15 years with different interest rates. Loan term (years) - This is the length of the mortgage you're considering. On the other hand, a homeowner who is refinancing may opt for a loan with a shorter repayment period, like 15 years. This is another common mortgage term that allows the borrower to save money by paying less total interest.

Frequently asked questions about mortgages

However, this size of a down payment isn’t typically required for a loan. It’s worth exploring your options with several lenders to see how much house you can afford. Before applying for a mortgage, review your financial readiness. Regardless of the length and type of loan you choose, you’ll need to meet certain loan approval requirements, such as an individual lender’s minimum credit score and maximum debt-to-income ratio (DTI). The length of the loan and the interest rate you qualify for will determine how much you pay in total interest. For example, if you opted for a 15-year mortgage with a 7% interest rate, you’d pay a total of $485,367 versus the $718,527 you’d pay with a 30-year mortgage at the same interest rate.

Monthly payment: What’s behind the numbers used in our mortgage payment calculator?

By 2001, the homeownership rate had reached a record level of 68.1%. The median home price is currently around $430,000, but homes are available for $300,000 and less in most areas of the U.S.

This chart doesn’t include homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance or property taxes. The chart assumes monthly payments of $1,995.91 that are made on time, with no extra mortgage payments applied. If you can put 20% or more down on a conventional loan, you can avoid paying private mortgage insurance. Another factor in monthly mortgage payments is the length of the loan. A 15-year mortgage will have significantly higher monthly payments but a lower interest rate than a 30-year mortgage. The monthly payments for a $300K loan are $2,030.28 and $430,899.22 in total interest payments on a 30 year term with a 7.17% interest rate.

How does $300,000 compare to the median home price in the U.S.?

For most borrowers, the total monthly payment sent to your mortgage lender includes other costs, such as homeowner's insurance and taxes. If you have an escrow account, you pay a set amount toward these additional expenses as part of your monthly mortgage payment, which also includes your principal and interest. Your mortgage lender typically holds the money in the escrow account until those insurance and tax bills are due, and then pays them on your behalf. If your loan requires other types of insurance like private mortgage insurance (PMI) or homeowner's association dues (HOA), these premiums may also be included in your total mortgage payment. As times go by, the principal and interest payments will get closer for each payment.

Even with satisfying these requirements, you’ll want to be sure you can pay all your regular bills, have enough left over for emergencies and afford your new mortgage payment. A fixed rate is when your interest rate remains the same for your entire loan term. An adjustable rate stays the same for a predetermined length of time and then resets to a new interest rate on scheduled intervals. A 5-year ARM, for instance, offers a fixed interest rate for 5 years and then adjusts each year for the remaining length of the loan. Typically the first fixed period offers a low rate, making it beneficial if you plan to refinance or move before the first rate adjustment. An FHA loan is government-backed, insured by the Federal Housing Administration.

Paying a lower interest rate in those initial years could save hundreds of dollars each month that could fund other investments. Your interest rate and monthly payment will increase after the introductory period, which can be three, five, seven or even 10 years, and can climb substantially depending on the terms of your loan. Finding your dream home and dealing with sticker shock isn’t easy, but looking at the numbers can be the best way to determine if a purchase is the right choice for you. Be sure to add closing costs and other fees – such as those for an appraisal, an inspection, moving costs and potential repairs – to your overall house-buying budget.

The principal is the amount you borrowed, while the interest is the sum you pay the lender for borrowing it. Your lender also might collect an extra amount every month to put into escrow, money that the lender (or servicer) then typically pays directly to the local property tax collector and to your insurance carrier. Most recurring costs persist throughout and beyond the life of a mortgage.

how much is a mortgage on a 300k house

One of the most crucial questions you’ll need to answer is how much you can comfortably afford to spend on monthly mortgage payments. Your estimated annual property tax is based on the home purchase price. The total is divided by 12 months and applied to each monthly mortgage payment.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that the interest rate will almost always be lower for a 15-year mortgage. You might, for example, be looking at 6.5% for a 15-year mortgage, versus 7.5% for a 30-year mortgage. The monthly payment for a $300,000 mortgage is $2,030.28 over 30 years with a 7.17% interest rate.

It is possible to pay down your loan faster than the set term by making additional monthly payments toward your principal loan balance. We’ve focused on calculations around principal and interest rate only – as property taxes and insurance expenses can vary by location and the value of the home. To get the most accurate picture of your costs, factor in your local property tax rate and homeowners insurance, as well as any mortgage insurance you might have to pay. The decision to buy a home often comes with a lot of financial questions.

At least 20 percent down typically lets you avoid mortgage insurance. If Joe were to abide by the 28/36 rule, he’d spend no more than $1,400 on a mortgage payment each month. In addition, the calculator allows you to input extra payments (under the “Amortization” tab). This can help you decide whether to prepay your mortgage and by how much.

If other fees are rolled into your monthly mortgage payment, such as annual property taxes or homeowners association dues, there may be some fluctuation over time. When looking at the monthly mortgage payments on a $300,000 loan, you might be thinking of an adjustable-rate mortgage as a great way to avoid paying more in interest over the life of the loan. An ARM is a solid option for many home buyers, but if you’re not prepared to make higher monthly mortgage payments in the event that interest rates go up, this strategy could hurt you in the long run.

If you’re looking to buy a home valued at $300,000, you could put more money down to lower your monthly payments. You’ll need to evaluate how much you’ll have left for other expenses and emergencies. Remember, your monthly house payment includes more than just repaying the amount you borrowed to purchase the home. The "principal" is the amount you borrowed and have to pay back (the loan itself), and the interest is the amount the lender charges for lending you the money. Get pre-qualified by a lender to see an even more accurate estimate of your monthly mortgage payment.

Jumbo loans allow you to purchase more expensive properties but often require 20% down, which can cost more than $100,000 at closing. These are also the basic components of a mortgage calculator. One of the biggest hurdles when buying a home is saving for a down payment. Discover how to save for a house with 11 straightforward down payment strategies. Before pursuing a $300,000 mortgage, consider how long you plan to live in the home to determine if the costs benefit your long-term financial goals. With this payment schedule, you’ll pay a total of $718,527 over the 30-year period, with $418,527 of that going toward interest.

If you’re home shopping and playing the numbers game, it can help to start with an understanding of what a baseline purchase price, such as $300,000, will look like in practice. Then, as you consider houses over and perhaps under that price point, you’ll better understand your options. When a loan exceeds a certain amount (the conforming loan limit), it's not insured by the Federal government. Loan limits change annually and are specific to the local market.

PortMiami Cruise Guide

port of miami cruise calendar

PortMiami is a major US seaport located on Dodge Island (Biscayne Bay, Florida). It is ranked the world's largest passenger port (serving both cruise and ferry shipping traffic). The port is linked to Watson Island via PortMiami Tunnel (building cost USD 1 billion). When you choose to cruise from Miami, you’re departing from the world’s busiest cruise port. Over 4 million passengers leave from Miami for the Caribbean and other destinations every year. All of the biggest cruise lines have trips leaving from Miami, including Norwegian, Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Crystal, as well as companies with smaller fleets and smaller ships, such as Azamara and Oceania.

Ft Lauderdale, FL

Also were started projects to enlarge MSC's cruise terminals (AA and AAA) and were added new passenger-boarding bridges. PortMiami and Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale are the world's largest/busiest cruise ports and the USA's main turnaround/departure ports for roundtrip Caribbean voyages. Both seaports and their respective airports are relatively nearby to each other. The city has the world's largest number of cruise company headquarters, including Carnival, RCI-Royal Caribbean International, MSC, NCL-Norwegian, Celebrity, Oceania. Miami port, besides its 9 cruise terminals also has facilities to handle cargo ships (bulk carriers and container vessels) and dry dock facilities for marine vessel refurbishments and repairs. The project's value was estimated at USD 247 million for PortMiami - after taking into consideration up-front costs and annual rent for current cargo shipping purposes.

Port of Miami Parking

Arrangements should be made with your cruise line in advance if you require wheelchair assistance to board the ship. If wheelchairs are required for the duration of the sailing, passengers are responsible for providing their own or they could likely rent from their cruise ship. Taxi services are readily available from FLL along with ridesharing apps, especially Uber and Lyft. Rideshare pick-ups are located on the arrivals level of the airport. If you've rented a car instead, please see directions by car "Getting There by Car" above.

MSC designed and started construction works on a large building (to serve its two cruise terminals - AA, AAA) plus two new berths. For the terminal's design was contracted Arquitectonica (global architecture, landscape and interior design company). Based on 2016 passenger traffic numbers reported by CLIA, Miami cruise port was ranked world's largest (4,898 million pax). Follows the list of world's busiest cruise ports with annual shipping traffic over 1 million passengers. Free shuttle service is offered between all parking areas and the cruise terminals.

In July 2018, Miami-Dade County and MSC signed an agreement for extended preferential berthing rights and MoU for building a new "Cruise Terminal AAA" at PortMiami (company's exclusive homeport in the USA). Port Miami has been the "Cruise Capital of the World" and also "Cargo Gateway of the Americas" for many years. It kept that title for more than two decades and accommodated world's biggest cruise ships of all major passenger shipping companies.

Passengers on cruises departing from PortMiami can fly into Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale International Airport. From Miami International Airport in particular, you can pre-arrange a shuttle through your cruise line (if you're arriving the same day your cruise leaves); taxis, Ubers and Lyfts are also readily available. Five garages (A, C, D, G and J) and one lot (Lot 2) are available for cruiser use. Garage J is reserved for those who want to pay before they park (rather than when they leave), and Lot 2 is designated for oversized vehicles (longer than 20 feet). NCL terminal's construction officially started on April 26, 2018 (ground-breaking ceremony). The project was officially approved on April 10th, and works started on May 1st, with planned completion in Fall 2019.

PortMiami's cruise terminals -- among the most modern in the world -- have been designed to quickly move passengers from land to sea. Drive-in passengers can opt for convenient on-port parking with special arrangements for travelers with disabilities. On May 4, 2018, from Barcelona were delivered two large passenger boarding bridges. Tailor-made for "Terminal F’", each bridge is 2-ton and 4-sectioned (telescopic), with length 32 m (105 ft). In March 2018, NCLH unveiled details on NCL's exclusive new Cruise Terminal B scheduled for completion in 2019 (read more in the port's "Terminal" section). PortMiami Deep Dredge project (budget USD 180 million, completed in 2016) increased the harbor's max draft to 15 m (48 ft) allowing access to Super Post Panamax boxships after the Panama Canal expansion completion. PortMiami (locode URMIA) is currently ranked the world's second-largest cruise port (after Port Canaveral).

The tailor-made (fully assembled) bridges were for the renovated "Terminal F’". Each of these 2-ton walkways is 4-sectioned (telescopic) and has length 32 m (105 ft). The bridges were designed by Adelte (Spain) and custom-made for "Terminal F" - to serve large liners with LOA length over 300 m (984 ft). It contributes annually with around USD 43 billion to the economy and supports over 334,000 jobs countrywide. The busiest Miami cruise lines, such as Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean have cruises departing just about every day of the month.

PortMiami serves 20+ cruise companies and 60+ different passenger ships. PortMiami’s boutique cruise terminal designed to cater to small vessels and luxury cruises, Terminal J is undergoing a $3 million facelift. Upgrades include the incorporation of a fully automated “One-Stop Shop” for Customs & Border Protection (CBP); remodeling of existing ground floor restroom facilities, and the addition of a new exterior escalator. PortMiami's MSC terminals AA and AAA can serve 2 turnarounds/homeported ships simultaneously and have max capacity passengers daily. Carnival Terminal F's renovations officially started on January 29, 2021 (with the groundbreaking ceremony) and are scheduled for completion by October 2022. Terminal F's groundbreaking was attended by Christine Duffy (CCL's President) and Daniella Levine Cava (Miami-Dade Mayor), along with construction companies representatives and county commissioners.

WHICH TERMINAL DO YOU GO TO?

The new terminal, at 200,000 square feet, serves as homeport to some of Royal Caribbean's largest ships. Construction works started in October 2019, with scheduled completion in November 2021. The USD 150 million (~EUR 137 million) facility was officially renamed from "Terminal H" to "Terminal V".

From there, hop on Miami Trolley's Coral Way route to take you the rest of the way. The trolley drops off at the port every 15 to 20 minutes from early until mid-evening all days except Sunday. On May 2, 2017, was announced that Miami-Dade County commissioners approved the agreement with NCLH/Norwegian Cruise Line Holding for a new terminal at PortMiami.

Royal Caribbean is leasing the land for an initial 20-year period (until 2048) at base rent US$9,5 million per year (annual increase 1,5%). In addition to the base rent, Miami-Dade County receives US$5,50 per cruise passenger in excess of 1,55 million pax. The plans for the new Royal Caribbean terminal were approved by Miami's Board of County Commissioners on July 7, 2016. Under the agreement, RCCL fully financed the construction, except US$15M that PortMiami paid for infrastructure/road works.

Schedule September 2023

If you're taking a cab to the Miami cruise port on the day of your sailing, your driver will need to follow signs for your ship's terminal after entering the port. Specific drop-off locations are designated at each terminal, and each terminal has its own designated taxi area. If you do not want your e-mail address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to this entity.

According to the MoU (memorandum of understanding) between Royal Caribbean and Miami-Dade County, the Terminal's completion date was July 31, 2018. RCCL was responsible for the Terminal's design and construction of the facilities (including parking garages with combined capacity 1000 vehicles). The 2018-signed MoU agreement received approval from Miami-Dade's Commissioners on April 9, 2019 and the deal was officially signed on September 19, 2019.

PortMiami has capacity to handle the world's biggest passenger ships and is homeport (turnaround port) for numerous large-sized vessels. However, port's prime shipping business are container ships, ranking it Florida's largest container cargo port and USA's 9th-largest. Annually, it handles 4+ million cruise ship tourists, around 7,4 million cargo tons and 1+ million TEU-containers. PortMiami welcomed 7,299,294 cruise vacationers in 2023, with plans to exceed that number going forward thanks, in part, to new state-of-the-art cruise terminals built with innovative funding by the cruise lines. This makes PortMiami the preferred departure destination to the Caribbean, Mexico and beyond.

Here are also homeported two of RCI's largest liners - Allure of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas. The new MSC Terminal can handle three large vessels simultaneously (max daily passenger capacity 36000) and is fitted with shorepower connectivity. In 2010 were handled 4,33 million cruise passengers (1 in 7 in the world). For FY11 (fiscal year 2011), PortMiami reported an economic impact in Miami-Dade County of USD 18 billion, providing around 176,000 local jobs.

With the new terminal, this capacity was expected to increase to ~2 million. The new facility was designed by Arquitectonica and built by Fincantieri Infrastructure. It is adjacent to Royal Caribbean's Terminal A. Construction works started on March 10, 2022, with scheduled completion and inauguration in December 2023. MSC Terminal AAA (completed in October 2022) has capacity to handle MSC WORLD-Class liners (fleet's ever-largest, with passenger capacity 7000). Terminal F is PortMiami's 3rd cruise terminal dedicated to Carnival ships as well as currently the largest in North America.

Pickup locations are located on the middle inner curb of arrivals level. Take the Metrorail's Orange Line to downtown Miami's Freedom Tower stop (about 30 minutes).

Porters are available at the entrance to each terminal to take your luggage. Cruisers can also arrive at the Port of Miami from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is about 25 miles away. Launched in 1993, the Carnival Sensation was one of the early stars of Carnival Cruise Line’s Fantasy-class ships. Built in Finland, she joined her sisters Fantasy, Ecstasy, and Imagination in bringing a more casual and fun-focused approach to cruising. Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line sold the ship in November 2020, and she was beached in Alang, Turkey, on January 14, 2021, for scrapping.

Instead of fading into obscurity, retired cruise ships find new relevancy and contribute to various industries, leaving a lasting legacy long after their initial voyages. These ship graveyards provide a glimpse into the past, preserving the memory of retired vessels that once sailed the seas. Some shipyards have evolved into tourist attractions, allowing visitors to explore these ghostly remnants of maritime history. Tourists can witness the grandeur of these colossal structures, marvel at their faded splendor, and reflect on the journeys these ships undertook during their active service.

The best case scenario for an old cruise ship is being sold to a smaller corporation and beginning a new life. Ships can also be purchased by other companies, which are rebranded and refurbished to fit the new cruise line. Initial steps toward cruise ship retirement might also include selling one's home (or preparing it for becoming a rental), disposing of excess possessions and re-homing pets.

Food and Other Necessities

Another ship built for Royal Viking Line, Sunward entered service as Royal Viking Sky in 1973 but was purchased by NCL in 1991 and renamed. In 1992, the ship was sold to Birka Cruise and renamed Birka Queen to sail in the Baltic Sea. In 1994, Southward was sold to Sun Cruises and offered voyages in the Mediterranean.

Status is shared with domestic partners or spouses living in the same household, regardless of whether they went on the same number of cruises. Other ways to boost status would include taking advantage of double points offers like the one Celebrity Cruises is running this year on European cruises or by cruising in upper-level suites. For some, the best part of retirement is spending time with family — especially the grandkids. Cruise retirement doesn't rule that out, but it does make it a bit more complicated. It's hard to be the type of granny who can frequently babysit when you live on a cruise ship, potentially thousands of miles away from where the grands live.

Unlike other Fantasy-class vessels, however, Carnival Fascination was sold to another cruise line when Century Cruises acquired the ship in November 2020. Those plans had already been in place before the pandemic, but the operational shutdown accelerated the timeline for retiring older, less efficient ships. She was sold for scrap in August 2020, and eventually taken to the Aliaga Ship Breaking Facility in Turkey for dismantling.

In 2014, the ship was renamed Celestyal Crystal, and in 2015 she had an unfortunate collision with a tanker. Later in 2015 she underwent a major refurbishment and she continues sailing today. Built in 1992, Dreamward was the first NCL ship built with the deliberate intention that it could later be lengthened and expanded.

The sale process typically involves negotiating the terms and conditions, including the purchase price and any additional agreements related to the ship’s future use. In 1997 and 1998, the ship sailed for the short-lived Norwegian Capricorn Line offering Australian cruises, and was the only vessel to sail under that branch of the company. The ship entered dry dock for refurbishment, but that renovation was incomplete as the local cruise industry restart continued to be delayed in 2021. Eventually, the ship was sold for scrap, and was beached in February 2022 to be dismantled.

They are offering special amenities and services to make traveling with pets easier. However, this increase in pet travel has also presented challenges for traditional airlines. When abandoned at sea, cruise ships are often left to deteriorate, becoming ghost ships. Salvage operations may be conducted to recover valuable items, but the phenomenon of ghost ships adds an eerie and mysterious element to maritime history.

The purchase price includes all meals and beverages for residents, laundry service, onboard gratuities and laundry service. The cruise line also offers an onboard fresh foods market for residents who prefer to prepare meals themselves. To put that cost in perspective, the average 65+ household spends $49,542 annually or around $135 per day, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Anyone who wishes to make a bid can also set up an inspection of the ship with CW Kellock & Co., The Points Guy reported. There is currently no pre-auction price estimate for the ship, though The Points Guy estimates it will be for several million dollars. Both Carnival Paradise and Carnival Elation have been updated and feature the line’s new Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades, and they sail a variety of itineraries in different seasons. Her most notorious moment in the spotlight was in February 2013, when an engine room fire resulted in power and propulsion losses, and the ship was adrift for several days before being towed to Mobile, Alabama.

It holds just 680 passengers at double occupancy -- more than 80% fewer than the newest Princess ships. Royal Caribbean's oldest ship is increasingly an outlier in the line's fleet, which every year becomes more dominated by giant mega-ships that are chock full of amusements. At 48,563 tons, it's nearly five times smaller than the line's big Oasis Class vessels, and it only holds 1,602 passengers at double occupancy.
